The Diamond Birthday Party

Published by AbingdonFitzharrysWI on

Abingdon Fitzharrys WI’s party to celebrate its foundation 60 years ago in February 1966 was full of colour, music and good food. The committee wowed in colourful outfits inspired by the psychedelic swinging sixties with a touch of Flower Power.  Music was provided by the beautiful voice of singer Charis Luke who gave us a medley of sixties songs which brought back many memories.  The food also had a retro inspiration – including cheese and pineapple on sticks, devilled eggs, cheese straws, vol au vents and pork pies.  The crowning glory was the huge celebration cake expertly baked by member Liz and featuring the Abingdon Fitzharrys swan logo as a decoration.  The cake was officially cut by the oldest and youngest member present, Sheila and Karen.

Our WI Adviser Catherine Blaxhall and the Oxfordshire Federation of WI’s Treasurer Hilary Dix were present to share the celebration and there were a number of former presidents of Abingdon Fitzharrys WI in the room including Jenny who first joined in 1971.  The talk was of many happy memories and hopes for a thriving future.

Everyone left with a pen specially inscribed for the occasion and decorated with a tiny blue bow.
