Walking group’s latest Sunday stroll

The walking group met up in the town centre on Sunday afternoon and walked along Park Road, past Abingdon School, to Albert Park.  They walked around the park and admired all the many varieties of trees and shrubs, some of which looked as if they had been suffering from the summer drought.  From the Park they walked along Victoria Road and crossed Ock Street to find the little cut through to the Ock Valley walk and took this route back into town.  The walk took them along an excellent path through the trees with the two streams of the Ock River on either side.  It was green and peaceful and hard to believe that it was so close to busy Ock Street.  The walk brought them out by St Helen’s Church and they couldn’t resist popping into St Ethelwold’s garden to admire the late summer planting, which included some magnificent purple dahlias whose blooms were as big as soup plates.  The walk finished with sharing a splendid pot of tea at the Throwing Buns. There had been lots of fresh air, lots of nature and lots of chat – a very pleasant afternoon.
