May 2023 newsletter

Hello!

Golly, almost May already and nearly half way through 2023. I do hope it warms up a bit soon.
We were thrilled to welcome several new ladies last month. Pat and Beryl who both want to join us and Monica and Jean who came as visitors and were very welcome. We hope you all took a box made by the craft-
group home and made yourself a cup of tea.

We did ask you at the last meeting about singing ‘Jerusalem’ at the start of every meeting and will do a proper count at the next meeting when you have had time to think about it. It seems we are very much in the minority in singing it at the start of our meetings.

The first of the re-formed Jubilee Group’s meetings went off well. Polly Vasher amazed us all with her zest for adventure and funny stories. Well done to Val who did a grand job hosting.

Next monthly meeting Tuesday 9 May – John Crowley, one of the Abingdon Town Criers will appear in all his
regalia. Hopefully he will not need the microphone. There will be a special cake and refreshments available. We hope to celebrate the new king with input from Liz Sims. If you feel like making a crown at home please do.

The chosen national WI Resolution about clean rivers will be discussed and voted on. An Abingdon Evening WI member will take our vote to be discussed at the National Federation of WI’s annual meeting in Cardiff on 25 May.

August Outing: There is a change of plan. Several suggestions have been mooted, but please feel free to email me if you have an idea and we can add it to the other suggestions.

Take care and all the best, Trine
